1) President Kovind honoured with the highest award of Republic of Guinea
•President Ram Nath Kovind has been awarded the National Order of Merit by the President of Guinea for his exceptional contribution to the advancement of overall relations and development of mutual cooperation between India and Guinea and for promoting friendship and partnership between the people of both the countries. 

2) President Kovind inaugurates exhibitions on M. Gandhi and Khadi in Gambia
•President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated exhibitions on Mahatma Gandhi and Khadi at the “Ebunjan Theatre” in the Gambia to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi.

3) Indian-origin doctor wins Miss England 2019
•Bhasha Mukherjee, a 23-year-old Indian origin doctor was crowned Miss England 2019. Bhasha holds two different medical degrees, has an IQ of 146 and is fluent in 5 different languages. As a winner of Miss England, she will be entered into the Miss World contest 2019.

4) India to conduct 1st National Time Release Study for efficient trade flow
•The Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, as part of its strategic commitment to improving global trade, is conducting India’s first national Time Release Study (TRS). The exercise will be institutionalized on an annual basis.

•This initiative will help India maintain the upward trajectory on Ease of Doing Business, particularly on the Trading Across Borders indicator which measures the efficiency of the cross border trade ecosystem. The TRS is an internationally recognized tool advocated by the World Customs Organization to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of international trade flows.



5) Gujarat CM launches ‘Vhali Dikri Yojna’
•Gujarat Chief Minister has launched the ‘Vhali Dikri Yojna’ from his home town Rajkot, Gujarat. The scheme for the welfare of the girl child.

•According to the scheme, the State Government will pay Rs. 4,000 to every girl child at the time of admission to Standard 4th, Rs. 6,000 at the time of taking admission to Standard IX, Rs. 1-lakh at the time of taking admission for higher education at the age of 18 and another Rs. 1-lakh at the time of marriage. It is a statewide cash incentive scheme for every girl child born in Gujarat.

6) World Breastfeeding Week Has Observe
•The Food and Nutrition Board, Ministry of Women and Child Development, is organizing several activities on the theme “Empower Parents, Enable Breastfeeding”during the World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) being observed from 1st to 7th August 2019.

•World Breastfeeding Week, which is being observed till 7th of the month, aims to create awareness among parents about breastfeeding, the importance of initiation, exclusive breastfeeding, and adequate and appropriate complementary feeding.

7) Giriraj Prasad Gupta appointed as new CGA
•Giriraj Prasad Gupta, Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer, took over as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA). Gupta has served in various positions in Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), ministry of rural development, and ministry of finance.

•Gupta also worked as the Director of National Institute of Financial Management (NIFM). Gupta succeeds Anthony Lianzuala as the new Controller General of Accounts (CGA) under the Finance Ministry.

8) RBI allows Bank of China to offer regular banking services in India
•The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)  allowed “Bank of China” to offer regular banking services in the country. Banks falling under this schedule have to adhere to the norms of the RBI. ‘Bank of China Limited’ has been included in the 2nd Schedule to the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.

9) SBI, Shanghai becomes first Indian bank to link up with CNAPS
•The State Bank of India’s (SBI) Shanghai branch is now connected to China’s National Advance Payment System (CNAPS).

•SBI is the only Indian bank to have obtained the license to do business in local currency and also inducted to the CNAPS by the People’s Bank of China (PBOC). SBI Shanghai can also offer the real-time transfer of local funds within China by routing them through the PBOC. The CNAPS, launched in 2008 by People’s Bank of China (PBOC) provides real-time settlement services for all payments.

1) World Radio Day: 13 February
•13 February is celebrated as World Radio Day by UNESCO all over the world. The theme of WRD 2019 is “Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace”.

•This day marks a time where people around the world celebrate the radio and how it shapes our lives. Radio informs, transforms and unites us. It brings together people and communities from all backgrounds to foster positive dialogue for change.

2) PM Modi Launched Several Development Projects for Haryana
•Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated and laid foundation stones of several development projects at Kurukshetra in Haryana. The important events are enlisted as follows:

1. Mr Modi dedicated to the nation the National Cancer Institute at Bhadsa in Jhajjar district. The institute is the state-of-the-art tertiary cancer care-cum-research centre constructed at the AIIMS Jhajjar campus.

2. Mr Modi also inaugurated Employees’ State Insurance Corporation’s (ESIC) medical college and hospital in Faridabad. This will be the first ESIC medical college and hospital in north India.

3. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of National Institute of Ayurveda in Panchkula which is being set up at Shri Mata Mansa Devi Temple Complex.

4. Foundation stone of Sri Krishna Ayush University, Kurukshetra was also be laid by Mr Modi. It will be the first university related to Indian system of medicine in Haryana as well as the first of its kind in India.

3) NITI Aayog Signs SoI with MSDF to Document Systemic Transformation in Education
•The NITI Aayog and the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) to codify, document and share best practices to improve learning outcomes in public school education through systemic reforms, based on their collective experiences of working with various state governments in India.

•The SOI was signed in the presence of Mr. Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, by Mr. Alok Kumar, Adviser (HRD), NITI Aayog and Mr. Barun Mohanty, Managing Director (International), MSDF. The NITI Aayog was established with the core mandate of promoting cooperative and competitive federalism through evidence-based policy reform and knowledge inputs. ng sustainable education systems.

4) 1st Annual Conference of Media Units Under I&B Ministry Organized in New Delhi
•The First Annual Conference of Media Units working under I&B Ministry was organized at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Union Minister of State (IC) for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore chaired the Conference. The focus of the Conference was on ensuring synergy between the Media Units in their day to day functioning.

5) 5th International Dam Safety Conference Starts In Bhubaneswar
•The 5th International Dam Safety Conference–2019 is being held in Bhubaneswar as a joint initiative of the Government of India, Government of Odisha and the World Bank under aegis of the ongoing World Bank assisted Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) as a part of institutional strengthening.

•Dam Safety Conferences are being organized as an annual event in different DRIP States in collaboration with the Implementing Agencies and leading academic institutes to provide a common platform for all stakeholders including non-DRIP States.

6) 1st LAWASIA Human Rights Conference 2019 Held In New Delhi
•LAWASIA, in association with the Bar Association of India, hosted its 1st LAWASIA Human Rights Conference in New Delhi with a motive to explore a broad range of human rights issues of relevance in the Asia Pacific region.

•This theme of the conference was “State Power, Business and Human Rights: Contemporary Challenges”. It provides the opportunity for lawyers and associated professional members to exchange insights and expertise on topics of significance.

7) World Government Summit’s 7th Session Held In Dubai
•The seventh session of the World Government Summit held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). More than 4,000 people from 140 countries participated in the event.

•The main objective of the summit is to shape the future generation of governments,by bringing the public and private sectors together to collaborate with world-renowned experts, it seeks to help create a positive impact for citizens worldwide.

1) Chhattisgarh Announces Renaming Of Naya Raipur To Atal Nagar
                             
  • In a tribute to the late former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Chhattisgarh Cabinet approved the proposal to rename Naya Raipur as 'Atal Nagar'. Chief Minister Raman Singh made the announcement after a Cabinet meeting. 


  • The Bilaspur University will be known as Atal Bihari Vajpayee University while the Narrow Gauge Line will be called Atal Path. The Central Park, which is being constructed beside collectorate, will be named as Atal Park. 


2) 1st Ever IAF-RMAF Joint Air Exercise Begins In Malaysia
                        
  • The first-ever joint air exercise involving the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) commenced at Subang Air Base in Malaysia. 
  • India has been eyeing a foothold at the strategically important Subang Air Base. The main aim of the exercise seeks to deepen defence and military ties between the two countries. 


3   3) Forbes Released List Of Highest Paid Female Athletes: Serena Williams Tops,PV Sindhu Ranks 7th
                          
  • Serena Williams (with earnings of $18.1 million) was the highest paid female athlete for a third consecutive year in 2018, according to "List Of Highest Paid Female Athletes 2018" published by Forbes. 
  • Dane Caroline Wozniacki, who captured her maiden grand slam title at Australian Open 2018, was second on the list with combined earnings of ($13 million). Indian badminton player P.V. Sindhu was at seventh place with earnings of $8.5 million. 


The Top 5 Highest Paid Female Athletes On The List Are:

5) Asian Games 2018: Rahi Sarnobat 1st Indian Female Shooter To Win Asiad Gold

                            
  •  Shooter Rahi Sarnobat won the women's 25m Pistol event at Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia. With this, she becomes the first ever Indian female shooter to win gold in the history of Asian Games. 
  •   Manu Bhaker who had won gold at Commonwealth Games 2018, finished sixth in the event. India have now two gold medals in shooting at the Asiad 2018. 

      6)  Ram Nath Kovind Appoints 7 New Governors: All You Need To Know

  • President Ram Nath Kovind appointed governors for seven states — Bihar, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Tripura. Governor Satya Pal Malik has been transferred from Bihar to Jammu and Kashmir to replace NN Vohra, while senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon has been appointed the Governor of Bihar, replacing Malik. 


  ·  Here is the information about the newly appointed governors of all the 7 states: 

  1. Satya Pal Malik - Jammu & Kashmir (Replaced NN Vohra)
Malik will be the first career politician to be appointed to the position in the last 51 years, indicating a change in the strategy of the centre which has so far relied on former bureaucrats to run show in the troubled state. Prior to this appointment, he was the Governor of Bihar. 

    2. Tathagata Roy - Meghalaya (Replaced Ganga Prasad) 
Known for his pro-Hindutva views and some extremely controversial statements, Roy was BJP's West Bengal unit president from 2002 to 2006 and had twice unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha elections on party ticket. Prior to this appointment, he was the Governor of Tripura. 

   3. Lalji Tandon - Bihar (Replaced Satya Pal Malik)
A BJP stalwart from Uttar Pradesh and a close aide of late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. 

   4. Ganga Prasad - Sikkim (Replaced Shriniwas Patil)
Prasad was a member of the legislative council in Bihar for 18 years and a former leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly. Prior to this appointment, he was the Governor of Meghalaya. 

   5. Kaptan Singh Solanki -Tripura (Replaced Tathagata Roy)
A former Rajya Sabha member, Solanki was appointed the Governor of Haryana in 2014. 

  6. Satyadev Narayan Arya - Haryana (Replaced Kaptan Singh Solanki)
73-year-old Arya is an eight-term MLA from Bihar. He was a minister in the 2010 BJP-JDU government in the state. 

   7. Baby Rani Maurya - Uttarakhand (Replaced K K Paul)
The 61-year-old Maurya is a BJP leader from Agra. Maurya had also previously held the post of Agra mayor.

1) India To Host International Union Of Food Science And Technology 2018
•The International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST), the global voice of food science and technology in association with Indian National Science Academy (INSA) as adhering body, announced the 19th edition of its prestigious global event to be held in Navi Mumbai, India in October 2018.

•The five-day event will bring together researchers, academicians, professionals, policymakers and industry leaders from across the globe to showcase innovation, exchange breakthrough ideas and drive policy issues. The focal theme for this edition of the prestigious congress is 25 Billion Meals a Day by 2025 with Healthy, Nutritious, Safe and Diverse Foods. 

2) Delhi Government Launches ‘Happiness Curriculum’ For School Students
•The Delhi government launched 'Happiness Curriculum' for school students up to class 8. The Dalai Lama, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister and education department in-charge Manish Sisodia were present at the occasion. 

•The 'Happiness Curriculum' was termed as the third stage of reforms in the education sector initiated by his government after infrastructure development and motivation of teachers at the government schools.

3) Agriculture Minister Chairs Inter-Session Meeting On 'Marine Fisheries-Mariculture In India'
•The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh has notified the "National Policy on Marine Fisheries, 2017", which will guide the development of marine fisheries sector for the next 10 years. It was announced at the inter-session meeting of the consultative committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare on “Marine Fisheries-Mariculture in India” in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.

•The government has also included a sub-component namely, 'Assistance for Deep-Sea Fishing' under 'Blue-Revolution'. Under this scheme, traditional fishermen, their associations/organizations or self-help groups are provided with central financial assistance upto 50% of the cost of the vessels i.e. Rs 40 lakh for 'Deep-Sea Fishing Vessels'.

4) Sashakt: 5 Pronged Strategy To Deal With NPAs
•The Sunil Mehta Committee, set up to look into the faster resolution of stressed assets, has recommended the creation of an asset management company for the resolution of stressed loans worth more than Rs500 crore. Finance minister Piyush Goyal announced that government has accepted a report submitted by a committee of bankers led by Punjab National Bank chairman Sunil Mehta.

•Sunil Mehta committee on bad loans resolution has recommended a five-pronged strategy Project 'SASHAKT' to deal with Non-performing Assets in the country's banking system. The five-pronged strategy includes:
1. SME resolution approach, 
2. Bank-led resolution approach, 
3. AMC/AIF led resolution approach, 
4. NCLT/IBC approach, and 
5. Asset-trading platform. 

•The Mehta Committee has further proposed a Bank Led Resolution Approach (BLRA) for loans between Rs 50 and Rs 500 crore. Under the BLRA approach, financial institutions will enter into an inter-creditor agreement to authorise the lead bank to implement a resolution plan in 180 days. 

5) P K Shrivastava Appointed DG Of Ordnance Factory Board
•P K Shrivastava took over the reins of the Ordnance Factory Board as its new Director General and Chairman. Shrivastava was earlier the additional director general of ordnance factories and member at OFB.

•He was also in-charge of OFB's Armoured Vehicles headquarters at Avadi in Chennai. Shrivastava joined Indian Ordnance Factories' Service in 1982.

6) Saraswati Prasad Assumes Charge As SAIL CMD
•Senior bureaucrat Saraswati Prasad has taken over the additional charge as chairman and managing director of steel PSU Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). 

•Mr Prasad succeeds P K Singh who retired recently.

7) Artist Anjolie Ela Menon Conferred Kalidas Award
•Noted artist Anjolie Ela Menon had received the National Kalidas Samman in Delhi for visual arts from the Madhya Pradesh government. The award was conferred in recognition of her insightful and sensitive portrayal of the identity and spirit of women through her meaningful paintings in a variety of media.

•With her first solo exhibition being held in Delhi in 1958, Menon is counted among India’s most accomplished artists and is the recipient of numerous national and international awards including the Padma Shri. Artist A. Ramachandran was also conferred with the Kalidas Award.
