What is the Agneepath scheme?
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the Agneepath scheme, which is a recruitment scheme for the youth of India to serve in the armed forces. The youth who will be a part of the armed forces through the Agneepath scheme will be considered Agniveers. The goal of the Agneepath scheme is to change the image of the Indian armed forces with younger troops on the frontline. This year 46000 Agniveers will be recruited under the Agneepath scheme. The Agniveers will be allowed to be trained by the armed forces for 4 years with a good salary package.

Ajay Bhatt, MoS Defence shares his views on the new Agneepath scheme, say “It’s a good scheme. Despite clarity over misunderstandings, it is not right to stick to the demands. I appeal to the youth not to let go of this golden opportunity. There will be no problem in the future.”
Age relaxation– After the updates of 10% reservation of vacancies, there will be an age relaxation of 3 years beyond the upper age limit for Agniveers in two forces. There will be 5 years of age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit for the first batch of Agniveers.
Amid the protest against Agneepath scheme, Lt Gen Anil Puri, the Additional Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, said that the Agneepath scheme will not be rolled out. He also said, “Every individual who wants to join Agniveers, will have to pledge that he has not participated in the protest or vandalism”.
Agneepath scheme: Details
Agneepath scheme is launched for recruitment of Indian youth in the armed forces of India. The scheme will allow the candidates or Agniveers to serve in the armed forces for 4 years and after the completion of 4 years, they will be able to apply voluntarily for the regular cadre. Up 25% will be selected from the batch based on merit and Organisation recruitments and they will serve for a full term of another 15 years. The left 75% of Agniveers will be mobilized with them exit or Seva Nidhi package of 11 lakhs. The Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar said women will also be inducted into the armed forces under the Agneepath scheme. The ministry of home affairs has announced that the government is going to introduce 10% reserved vacancies for recruitment in CAPFs and Assam rifles for Agniveers.

Agneepath Scheme: Recruitment
On 20th June 2022 the Indian Army issued the notification for the recruitment rally of Agniveers. As per the notification, the registration will start in July 2022. PRO Kohima, Ministry of Defence tweeted “First rally for recruitment of Agniveers will start in mid-August.” Through Twitter, the army informs that the notification for the Indian Navy recruitment will be out on 21st June 2022 and for the air force the notification will be out on 24th June 2022. Under the new model, the online registration on the force’s recruitment website is mandatory for all aspirants which will be commenced from July.
Agneepath scheme: Salary package
The Agniveers who will serve the Indian armed forces will be given customized monthly salary packages. The total salary to be given per month is rupees 30000. 30% of the amount from the total salary will be deducted for the Seva Nidhi package and the net in-hand salary will be 21000 per month. The salary will increase over the years for 4 years of service. For the second year, the total salary will be Rs 33000 out of which the net in-hand salary will be rupees 23100 per month. Agniveers will also be entitled to risk and hardship allowance. Under the Seva Nidhi scheme in which the candidate’s contribution is 30% of the total salary of the month and the government will contribute 30% the total amount will be rupees 11.71 lakhs.
