From being a CBSE topper to studying at Shri Ram College of Commerce and Oxford University and working in the World Bank as a researcher, Sarthak Agrawal is now excited to join the civil services thanks to his 17th rank right in the first attempt of UPSC.
“Didn't do any formal preparation for the exam, just read random stuff;” said Sarthak on his success mantra. He shared that he didn't study for the exams as he was already interested in exam preparation tests.
He was fascinated by anything related to India in economics, politics, and relations with foreign countries that benefitted him to clear the UPSC exams. He didn't take any coaching classes.

Sarthak said that he didn't have a specific schedule for study as he was not a disciplined guy. Some days he didn't study, some days he did a lot. In simple words, it depends on his mood that he has to study or not.

Sarthak is looking forward to joining the civil services. He wants to work in the development of India as he is an economist.

“Make your strategies, try to have an independent mind, and don't follow somebody's path because they give you notes, tell you to read these books, but they can’t give your assurance. Just study that topic whichever you choose with interest,” said Sarthak Agrawal

Sarthak Agarwal, who has gained the 17th rank in the first attempt of UPSC examinations, did his schooling from DPS, Vasant Kunj, secured a 99.6 percentile in his Class 12 exam.
He completed his BA honours in economics from SRCC and got his MPhil degree from Oxford University in 2019. After that, he joined as a researcher in the poverty team in the World Bank.
