Why in news?
Recently various issues are expected to be discussed in the U.S. and China meeting at Alaska.
What are the issues that US will discuss?
- It is said that US will resist China on various issues and ensure free Indo-Pacific.
- It will raise the following issues:
1. China’s crackdown in Xinjiang and Hong Kong;
2. Chinese aggression against U.S. allies and partners;
3. Chinese Pressure on Australia over trade bans;
4. Chinese aggression against Japan in the Senkaku islands;
5. PLA’s incursions over the LAC;
- U.S. will be competitive, collaborative and be adversarial with China according to the situations.
- It will plan to deal with climate change, COVID-19 pandemic and global economic recovery.
What will China expect from the meeting?
- It will seek to reverse Trump-era policies and promote structured dialogue to take forward ties from the current one.
- It will try to end U.S.’s trade sanctions on China and promote talks on visa bans and will try to reopen its consulate in Houston.
- Thus the meeting will aim to resolve the existing grievances and no breakthrough can be expected.
What we can infer from this?
- World Economic Forum predicts that the U.S.-China tariff war itself could cost the world $600 billion.
- It is expected that two sides will discuss a possibility of a future summit between U.S. President and Chinese President.
- And India and world too can benefit if the tensions between the U.S. and China is averted.
