About 2300 candidates qualified to attend the UPSC Civil Services Personality Test in February 2020, says UPSC.
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced the results of the Civil Services Main (written) Exam 2019. 2304 Candidates are qualified for the Personality Test (Interview) to be conducted at the UPSC building in New Delhi.
1994 candidates in 2018; 2304 candidates in 2019
The tally of 2304 candidates in 2019 is 310 more than the selection in 2018. In 2018, only 1994 candidates were called for the interview, probably due to less number of vacancies then.
Once qualified for UPSC interview, even if not selected for Civil Services, doors to many government and public sector jobs like that of NTPC, SAI etc opens up for the candidates.
The number of candidates for Mains: 12-13 times the number of vacancies to be filled
The number of candidates to be admitted to the Main Examination will be about twelve to thirteen times the total approximate number of vacancies to be filled in the year through the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
The number of candidates for interview: Twice the number of vacancies to be filled
As per UPSC, the number of candidates to be summoned for interview will be about twice the number of vacancies to be filled.
However, in most of the previous years, the number of candidates who are summoned for the interview is around 2.5 times the number of vacancies.
In 2019, the vacancies reported at the time of Civil Services Examination notification is 896. However, as in most other years, the number of final vacancies may be higher. In this trend analysis, for all years except 2019, we have mentioned the reported vacancies at the time of final rank-list.
Marks thus obtained by the candidates in the Main Examination (written part as well as interview) would determine their final ranking.
Candidates will be allotted to the various services keeping in view their ranks in the Examination and the preferences expressed by them for the various services and posts.
