1) Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's birthday being celebrated as Good Governance Day
•Several programmes have been organised to mark the day. The Samadhi of Mr Vajpayee - Sadaiv Atal was dedicated to the nation today. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes at the Samadhi this morning.
•Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, BJP veteran LK Advani, BJP President Amit Shah, several Union Ministers and family members of the late Prime Minister also paid their homage.
2) PM Modi inaugurates India's longest rail-cum-road bridge in Assam
•Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated India's longest rail-cum-road bridge over the Brahmaputra at Bogibeel in Assam.
•Mr Modi also travelled from Dibrugarh to Dhemaji through the new bridge.
•He also flagged off the first passenger train Tinsukia-Naharlagun Intercity Express over the bridge. It will run five days a week and use the bridge to cut down the train-travel time between Tinsukia in Assam to Naharlagun town of Arunachal Pradesh by more than 10 hours.
•Later addressing a rally at Kareng Chapori in Dhemaji district, the Prime Minister said, the NDA government has changed the dilly-dallying work culture regarding the implementation of development projects.
•Mr Modi asserted that the Bogibeel bridge will strengthen the country's defence prowess with the movement of vehicles and trains. He said, it is not only a bridge, but it is also a lifeline for crores of people in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
•The Prime Minister said, the country would be stronger when North East region would become strong.
•Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday is celebrated asGood Governance Day across the country on 25 December. The Samadhi of Bharat Ratna and Former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee Sadaiv Atal was dedicated to the Nation.
•The Samadhi has been completed by CPWD at a cost of over ten crore rupees and the entire cost of construction has been borne by the Atal Smriti Nyas Society.
