1) World Hepatitis Day: 28th July
•Hepatitis B and C are chronic infections that may not show symptoms for a long period, sometimes years or decades. At least 60% of liver cancer cases are due to late testing and treatment of viral hepatitis B and C. Low coverage of testing and treatment is the most important gap to be addressed in order to achieve the global elimination goals by 2030. WHO will focus on the theme: "Test. Treat. Hepatitis" for World Hepatitis Day 2018 events.
2) Health Ministry Launches National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme
•The programme was launched on World Hepatitis Day with an aim to combat viral hepatitis and reduce mortality and morbidity associated with it, Union Health Minister J P Nadda. The programme has been developed in association with all stakeholders who have worked at the grass-root level and has been launched in accordance with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), 2030.
3) Union HRD Minister Releases The AISHE Report 2017-18
•The theme of this conference is "Research and innovation in Higher Education." On the occasion, the Minister released the All India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) Report 2017-18, Higher Educational Profile 2017-18, and Swachh Campus Manual.
4) BRICS Summit 2018 Concludes: Johannesburg Declaration Adopted
•The heads of state and government of all five BRICS nations including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa convened for the 10th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. The theme of BRICS Summit 2018 was ‘BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for inclusive growth and shared prosperity in the 4th Industrial Revolution'.
•The summit saw the BRICS leaders come together and discuss various international and regional issues of common concern and adopted the 'Johannesburg Declaration' by consensus. The BRICS leaders have used the summit to reject the growing unilateralism and instead reiterate their commitment to the strengthening of multilateral institutions, calling for stronger intra-trade within member states. The declaration comes as the United States and China remain deadlocked in a trade war over tariffs.
5) Indian Women's Compound Archery Team Reaches World Rank 1
•With the contribution from each member, the women's compound archery team jumped to the top spot with 342.6 points, with the Chinese Taipei team standing second with a difference of six points.
6) Jehan Daruvala Claims Pole To Flag Win In Formula 3
•Jehan was fifth on the timesheets after his first lap and improved to provisional second on the next lap. On his third and last effort, Jehan gave it everything for a brilliant lap to bag pole position by 0.10 seconds ahead of the then championship leader Marcus Armstrong of New Zealand.
