UPSC CSE: About the Exam
The Union Public Service commission (UPSC) conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE) to recruit officers for various officer level all India services such as: the Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Foreign Services (IFS), and Indian Police Services (IPS) etc. The exam is conducted in offline mode (pen-paper test).

– General Issues on Environmental Ecology: Bio-diversity, Climate Change etc. (Topics not requiring specialisation)

UPSC CSE: Mains Exam Pattern & Syllabus
This exam tests a candidate’s level of general
awareness and the ability to analyse and take a view on various socio-economic
issues. The exam is descriptive in nature. Relevant, meaningful and succinct
answers are expected.

UPSC CSE: Eligibility

A
candidate must be between 21 – 32 years of age. This criterion is for the
general category.

relaxation is provided as per norms
UPSC CSE: Allowed Number of Attempts And How Are
They Calculated
There are some restrictions on the number of times
this exam can be taken is different for different categories as mentioned
below.

The number of attempts for IAS exam: General
Category: 6 attempts till 32 years of age.
·
The number of attempts for IAS
exam: OBC: 9 attempts till 35 years of age.
·
The number of attempts for IAS
exam: SC/ST: unlimited attempts till 37 years of age.
·
Physically Handicapped /disabled candidates
belonging to General category will get the benefit of 9 attempts
till the age prescribed by UPSC – 42 years.
How Are These Attempts Calculated?
If you appear for any of the papers of the Civil
Services Preliminary Exam, your attempt is counted. If you filled up the
UPSC application form but didn’t go to take the Preliminary Exam, your attempt
will NOT BE COUNTED.
