•All over India, May 21st is observed as Anti-Terrorism Day in the memory of former Indian PM Mr Rajiv Gandhi who passed away on this day. On this day in the year 1991, former India’s PM Rajiv Gandhi was killed brutally by terrorist attacks. Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India, while conducting an election campaign in Sriperumbudur (located near Chennai) in Tamil Nadu was assassinated by a suicide bomber on 21 May 1991. He was 46 years of age. Along with him, the bombing also took the lives of 18 other citizens and seriously injured 43. This tragedy was blamed on the members of the Sri Lankan militant organisation, LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam).

•Born on 20 August 1944, Rajiv Gandhi hailed from a hard-core political family. Both, his grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru, and mother Indira Gandhi held the Prime Minister’s office for several terms. Veer Bhumi is the samadhi of former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated on May 21st, 1991 in Sriperumbadur, Tamil Nadu.
2) Hyderabad’s Turbo Megha Airways first private airline to get UDAN licence
•Turbo Megha Airways has become the first private airline to get a licence to fly under UDAN, the government scheme for subsidized regional flights.
•The Hyderabad-based airline which flies as TruJet stated that it will launch flights on Hyderabad-Cuddapah, Hyderabad-Nanded and Nanded-Mumbai routes. The five airlines awarded the rights to fly UDAN flights so far are Air India, SpiceJet, Turbo Megha, Air Odisha and G.R. Gopinath led Deccan Air.
3) Bilateral Exercise Between Indian & Republic Of Singapore Navy SIMBEX-17 Commences
•As part of 'SIMBEX-17', the ongoing Bilateral Naval Exercise between Navies of the Republic of Singapore and India, lndian Naval Ships Shivalik, Sahyadri, Jyoti and Kamorta are participating. While INS Sahyadri and INS Kamorta are at Singapore since 12 May 2017, INS Shivalik and INS Jyoti would be joining directly for the sea phase of the exercise.
•SIMBEX is an acronym for "Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercises". Bilateral cooperation between Singapore and India was first formalised when RSN ships began training with the Indian Navy in 1994. This years edition of SIMBEX-17 being held in the South China Sea would be the 24th in the series and is aimed to increase interoperability between the Singapore and India as well as develop common understanding and procedures for maritime security operations.

5) Arunachal’s Anshu Jamsenpa is first woman to scale Mt Everest twice in 5 days
•Arunachal Pradesh mountaineer Anshu Jamsenpa has become the world’s first woman to scale Mt Everest twice in five days. Her ascent of the world’s tallest peak in the Himalayas at 7.45 am on 21st May 2017 was her fifth overall and the second after 16th May 2017.
•The 32-year-old mother of two had started her fifth ascent on May 19, climbing almost non-stop from Everest Base Camp at 17,500ft till 10 pm.
